Field Day is ham radio’s open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.
We welcome the public to come learn more about ham radio! This year, we will be setting up our portable stations at Joos Grove (Directions), which is just north of the marina and beach on the east side of Jamestown Reservoir.
We are inviting the public to come visit us after 2:00pm on Saturday, June 27th.
Come up and take a look at how we operate and make contacts using a radio and a piece of wire. We will have two three stations set up. One of our stations will be operating on solar power.
If you are interested in technology, at all, Amateur Radio is a great hobby that has many different ways of learning and experimenting. And most of all, it’s fun!
