Jamboree-on-the-Air

UPDATE: We had a very successful JOTA event! We would like to thank all of the scout leaders, parents, and especially the scouts that came to learn and make some contacts on the air. We learned a lot, this time (our first time doing this), and we are sure that next year’s event will be even better.

On October 20, 2018 we will be hosting Jamestown’s first Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA). We will be setting up for one day of the JOTA event at William S Gussner Elementary School.

Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is the largest Scouting event in the world. It is held annually the third full weekend in October. 2018JOTA-PatchJOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts and hams around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. This jamboree requires no travel, other than to a nearby amateur radio operator’s ham shack. Many times you can find the hams will come to you by setting up a station at your Scout camporee, at the park down the block, or perhaps at a ham shack already set up at your council’s camp.

We will have HF radios set up, as well as a VHF link to Echolink. There will be projects and a lot of learning happening. Since this is the first time we are doing this, we’re not too sure of what to expect, but we hope to learn a lot, as well. All Radio Amateurs are invited to come up and help out or just stop in to visit. For more information, contact us.
